Mental Health Recovery is real. And it belongs to all of us. đź’š

The term mental health recovery was popularized by Patricia Deegan — someone who lived through her own diagnosis and redefined what healing could look like.

She reminded the world that recovery isn’t about “being cured.”
It’s about building a meaningful life — even with ongoing challenges.

At Gr8ter, we believe recovery looks like:
✨ Getting out of bed on the hard days
✨ Asking for help when you used to stay silent
✨ Finding connection instead of isolation
✨ Choosing to stay — one more day, one more moment

The Reality is:
1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year
Over 50% of people will be diagnosed with a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime

Suicide remains a leading cause of death — but it is preventable, and recovery is possible

🤝 You Are Not Alone

If you or someone you love is struggling, support is available:
📞 Call or text 988 – Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
đź’¬ Chat: 988lifeline.org
🧡 Local support groups, peer support, and community spaces (like ours)

Recovery isn’t linear. It isn’t perfect.
But it is powerful. And it is possible.

If someone tells you they’re self-harming:
âś” Stay calm
âś” Thank them for trusting you
âś” Avoid shaming
âś” Encourage professional support
âś” Focus on safety planning

You don’t have to fix everything. You just have to stay.
Self-harm thrives in secrecy. Healing grows in consistent support.

Resource of the Week:
The National Alliance on Mental Illness offers family support groups and education programs for loved ones navigating mental health challenges.

No one should carry this alone.

How fun is this!

March madness challenge #5 is to get to the 3 Bears Trail and take a photo with 3 people growling like bears. The Maiden family was the first to complete the challenge and get the extra challenge point!

Not only one of the funnest challenges of March Madness but also one of our Favorite Trail Fridays family!

Big things are coming. đź’ś

This year, Gr8ter will be participating in Idaho Gives, a statewide day of giving that brings communities together to support nonprofits making a difference.

On Giving Tuesday we set a goal of $2,000 and our community showed up in the most incredible way… helping us raise $4,000 to support the Gr8ter Sock project. Which touched so many lives.

This year, we’re setting a goal of $3,000 during Idaho Gives to continue building a community rooted in movement, connection, and purpose.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing more about the work Gr8ter is doing and how your support helps make it possible.

Because when people come together, we can create something Gr8ter. It starts here!!

Stay tuned. Idaho Gives is coming.

Mental health conversations matter — and that includes talking openly about Bipolar Disorder.

Bipolar disorder affects millions of people and is often misunderstood. It isn’t simply “mood swings.” It’s a complex mental health condition that can involve cycles of depression and periods of elevated mood, energy, or activity.

Like many mental health conditions, it can impact relationships, work, and daily life — but recovery, stability, and support are possible.

Awareness helps reduce stigma, encourages understanding, and reminds people living with bipolar disorder that they are not alone.

Later this month we’ll be sharing more for World Bipolar Day, but today we’re starting the conversation.

Because understanding mental health is part of building a stronger, more compassionate community. đź’š

Self-harm is often hidden. But there are signs.

Possible indicators:
• Wearing long sleeves in hot weather
• Unexplained cuts or bruises
• Sharp objects hidden
• Isolation or withdrawal
• Sudden mood shifts
• Expressing intense self-criticism

Approach with calm curiosity — not panic.
Instead of:
“Why would you do this?”

Try:
“I’ve noticed you seem overwhelmed lately. I care about you. Do you want to talk?”

At Gr8ter, we believe safety grows in environments where people are allowed to be honest without fear.

Resource of the Week:
Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline if someone is in emotional distress.

Listening can interrupt isolation. And isolation is often where self-harm grows.

🤍 A Message from Our Founder 🤍

Many of you know Kylee as the heart behind Gr8ter — the person who helped build this community around movement, connection, and purpose. Recently, Kylee made the decision to step down from her role as Co-President in order to prioritize her own mental health and healing.

The good news? This isn’t goodbye.

Kylee remains deeply connected to the mission and community she helped create. You’ll still see her on the trails, at Trail Fridays, at Top of Tamarack, and cheering on the incredible work this community continues to do.

Gr8ter is in a strong place thanks to an amazing board, leadership team, and our Interim Executive Director Becca Cahoon, who has been doing an incredible job guiding the organization forward.

Kylee recently shared a personal message about this season of healing, gratitude, and what comes next — and we invite you to read it.

👉 Read Kylee’s full message here: https://gr8ter.org/messagefromfoundermarch/

Thank you for continuing to show up for this community and the mission of mental health recovery and suicide prevention.
