As we step into a new year, I’ve been reflecting on my journey with mental health and what recovery really means. There was a time when I didn’t feel like myself, when I was functioning but joyless—just going through the motions. I remember telling my psychiatrist, “I just don’t feel like myself.” Her words were: “Maybe this is your new normal.”
In that moment, what she was really telling me was to settle. To accept a sub-par life. But something inside me said, No. This is not success.
Success isn’t simply avoiding crisis. Success isn’t just surviving. Success is thriving. It’s waking up with joy. It’s stepping toward the life you want. It’s having dreams and working toward them. It’s choosing more than just getting through the day.
At the time, I didn’t know the phrase “mental health recovery,” but I did know that I deserved more. I’m so grateful I didn’t settle—and that’s why I can speak to you now from a place of hope.
As we begin 2026, I encourage you to think about what you want for yourself. Not what others expect, not the bare minimum, not just survival—but what truly fills you up. Maybe it’s signing up for a race. Maybe it’s moving your body every day. Maybe it’s starting a creative project, tackling a big work goal, or dedicating time to the people you love.
Purpose is powerful. Setting goals is powerful. Hope is powerful.
This year, I have some big dreams—big races, exciting goals for Gr8ter, and maybe even a writing project I’ve been holding back on. And I’m leaning into all of it.
Whatever your goals for 2026, I hope you’ll embrace them fully. Choosing a goal—choosing yourself—is a huge step toward mental health recovery. And I’m here for it. We’ll step into this year together. 💙✨
